Lok Sabha Elections 2019: With an aim to churn out maximum leverage out of India’s unemployment fiasco, the Congress manifesto today stated that the party would tackle the job issue by filling over 20 lakh government vacancies by March 2020, if voted to power. While unveiling party’s election manifesto document titled ‘Will Deliver (Hum Nibhayenge) on Tuesday, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said that around 10 lakh youth would get employment in the gram panchayats and others in vacant government posts across the country. Gandhi also promised that those willing to launch their start-ups not require any government permission to start the businesses for the first three years. The Congress President made these announcements after accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of not focusing on the real issues including unemployment, farmer distress, corruption among others. To the youth of India, Congress pledged to make jobs its top priority, saying it will ensure 34 lakh jobs in the public sector by filling all 4 lakh central government vacancies before March 2020, persuading the state governments to fill 20 lakh vacancies and creating an estimated 10 lakh new Seva Mitra positions in every gram panchayat and urban local bodies. Further accusing the Modi government of causing an economic imbalance in the country over the past five years, Gandhi also said that India lost jobs largely on the account of demonetisation and implementation of Gabbar Singh Tax (an acronym he uses to define new GST regime announced by Modi government). Gandhi also claimed that Congress’ party manifesto focuses on how the jobs scenario can improve going ahead. With an aim to tackle the ongoing farm crisis in the country, Gandhi also proposed to present separate ‘Kisan Budget’ and make non-payment of loans by farmers’ civil offense instead of a criminal one. In order to further enhance public welfare schemes, Gandhi said that Congress will allocate 6 per cent of GDP to education and will strengthen government hospitals and give high-quality healthcare access to the poor. The manifesto was released by party president, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and senior leader P Chidambaram among others. Gandhi also promised to make India ‘strong and united and a prosperous society’.
