New Delhi: The Congress on Friday released its manifesto for the Punjab Assembly elections and promised one lakh government jobs.

Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu said the grand old party promises procurement of oilseed, pulses and corn by government agencies, PTI reported.

Sidhu said the Congress government will end mafia raj by creating corporations for liquor sale and sand mining.

The Congress also promised Rs 1,100 per month to the women in Punjab and eight free cooking gas cylinders per year in its manifesto.

Earlier on February 12, Sidhu countered the claims of infighting in the party’s state unit and said none have any issue with the high command’s decision.

“Where is the internal infighting in Congress? Rahul Gandhi Ji has given a decision and we all have welcomed it. No one has any issue with the high command's decision,” said Sidhu, news agency ANI reported.

Sidhu’s remarks came a week after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi declared incumbent Charanjit Singh Channi as the chief ministerial candidate.

Earlier on February 6, Gandhi announced Channi as the party’s CM face for the Punjab Assembly polls.

Gandhi, who made this announcement while addressing a rally at Ludhiana, asserted that the party has no dearth of capable leaders.

The former Congress president said Punjab is in the blood of both Channi and Sidhu.

“Punjab CM will come from a poor family, Channi will be CM face for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections,” he announced.

Voting for the Punjab Assembly will be held in a single phase on February 20. The results will be declared on March 10.
