The Congress on Wednesday announced candidates for two seats in Maharashtra for the Lok Sabha elections.


The grand old party announced Dr Shobha Dinesh Bachhav from Dhule and Dr Kalyan Kale from Jalna seat. The party has, so far, announced candidates for 15 out of 17 Lok Sabha constituencies it would be contesting in the state as part of the seat-sharing arrangement with its allies Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar). 




Shobha Dinesh Bachchav is a former state minister, while Kalyan Kale too a senior leader of the state Congress unit. Congress is yet to announce candidates for the two seats in Mumbai that have been allocated to it.

The party earlier on Wednesday declared the names of candidates for six more Lok Sabha constituencies and 12 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh.


The party fielded former Tirupati MP C Mohan will contest the Lok Sabha election from the same reserved (SC) constituency and K Raju is the candidate for Nellore segment.


P Satyanarayana Reddy is the candidate from Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency, V Venkatesh (Anakapalli), K Lavanya (Eluru) and G Alexander Sudhakar (Narsaraopeta), said AICC general secretary K C Venugopal in a press release.


The announcement comes days after the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition in Maharashtra announced its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday.


As per the seat-sharing formula, Shiv Sena (UBT) will contest in 21 seats, while the Congress will contest 17 seats, and the NCP (SP) 10 seats.   


The agreement was achieved after the Congress relinquished its claims on the contentious Sangli and Bhiwandi seats, now designated for the Sena (UBT) and the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), respectively.


The Congress has got Nandurbar, Dhule, Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, Bhandara-Gondia, Gadchiroli-Chimur, Chandrapur, Nanded, Jalna, Mumbai North Central, Mumbai North, Pune, Latur, Solapur, Kolhapur and Ramtek seats in Maharashtra.
