New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh Congress Chief and party president Rahul Gandhi’s Chief Ministerial pick for the state, Kamal Nath met MP Governor Anandiben Patel at 11am on Friday to stake claim for forming the government in Madhya Pradesh. Congress had earlier claimed that they have attained 9 additional votes from independent candidates.


The Congress had earlier sought time from governor office for Tuesday night after all the results will be announced to prove its majority in the state. In a letter to Governor Office Kamal Nath said “Congress has “emerged the single largest party with majority support” and that “all the Independents have in addition assured support to the Congress party.”

In the letter, Kamal Nath said he would meet her with senior Congress leaders to “apprise you and form the next government in Madhya Pradesh”.

Responding to Kamal Nath’s mail, The governor’s office however said, “an appointment will be given only after the situation is made clear by the Election Commission,”

The Congress was short of 2 seats from the majority, as it had won 114 of the state’s 230 assembly seats. The BJP won 109 seats, which is 7 shy of the majority mark of 116 seats in the 230-member Madhya Pradesh assembly.
