'Committed To Progress': Kharge Posts Photo With Siddaramiah, Shivakumar As K'taka Finally Gets New CM

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday tweeted a photo with Sidaramaiah and DK Shivakumar showing that a consensus has been reached over the Karnataka CM issue.

The Karnataka Chief Minister crisis has finally ended with Siddaramaiah chosen as the new CM and Shivakumar as deputy CM of the southern state. An official statement is yet to be made on the matter but, as is said that a picture speaks a thousand words, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge tweeted a photo with Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar - showing that issue is at last resolved. Posting a photo with the two Congress leaders with hands raised as a symbol to show they are together, Kharge said that team Congress is committed to usher progress and that they will implement the five guarantees 'promised to 6.5 Cr Kannadigas'.

Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar can be seen smiling in the photograph.

"Team Congress is committed to usher progress, welfare and social justice for the people of Karnataka. We will implement the 5 guarantees promised to 6.5 Cr Kannadigas," the tweet read.

However, Congress MP and DK Shivakumar's brother, DK Suresh said he was not happy that Shivakumar was made deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka.

"I am not fully happy but in the interest of Karnataka, we wanted to fulfil our commitment...That is why DK Shivakumar had to accept. In future we will see, there is a long way to go. ...I wish it (CM post for DK Shivakumar) but it didn't happen, we will wait and see," he said.

Sources say that Siddaramaiah will remain the Chief Minister for the first half of the 5-year term and DK Shivakumar will rule the state in the second half.

Meanwhile, banners were put up outside the residence of Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar on Thursday after he was named as the next deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, as reported by the news agency ANI. Heavy security was deployed outside the residence of Siddaramaiah after he was named as the new Chief Minister of the state.

Earlier on Wednesday, Congress leader and All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Surjewala said that Karnataka will most likely have a new cabinet in the next 48-72 hours.

Speaking to the reporters, Surjewala said, "Whenever Congress makes a decision we will inform you. In the next 48-72 hours, we will have a new cabinet in Karnataka."
