Chhattisgarh Elections: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday began his two-day visit to poll-bound Chhattisgarh with his address to a rally in Bhanupratappur. He attacked PM Narendra Modi saying that the PM uses the 'OBC' word in every speech he makes and yet he was "scared" of the caste census. Gandhi said that OBCs have to become aware as "they are being ditched".

"PM Modi uses OBC word in every speech..uses ‘backward’ word in every speech, so why he is scared of caste census", the Congress MP said. He said the Congress will conduct a caste census in Chhattisgarh if it wins the upcoming assembly polls here, reported PTI.

"There are only two ways to run a government: either to benefit the rich of the state or the country or to help the poor. Our government in any state helps farmers, labourers, poor and the unemployed," the Congress leader said.

"We had made two-three big promises in the last elections. The BJP was saying that these promises can't be fulfilled, but I am happy to say that we completed those works within 2 hours," he said.

Gandhi added that as soon as his government was formed, they did it in two hours which the BJP cannot be done. "...Loans of farmers were waived, Rs. 23 lakhs crores were given to 26 lakh farmers, Rs. 7000 were given to 5 lakh labourers each..." Gandhi told the gathering.

Announcing benefits for Tendu leaf collectors, he said they will get Rs 4000 per year under Rajiv Gandhi Protsahan Yojana if Congress retains power. The former party president also promised free education in government schools, colleges ‘from KG to PG’ in the state.
