She is representing the grand old party in the 2022 assembly elections from the Mandi seat. She is facing BJP's sitting MLA Anil Sharma in the constituency alongside Shyam Lal from AAP. Champa Thakur was the Congress candidate from Mandi in the 2017 elections as well where she eventually lost to Anil Sharma. She entered into politics after her marriage in 2005 and has been elected as the member as well as the chairperson of the Mandi Zila Parishad.
