In the run-up to the assembly elections in Maharashtra, the Congress announced a set of five guarantees, including Rs 25 lakh health insurance, caste census and an unemployment allowance for the people in the state.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while addressing the people in Mumbai, said his party will give Rs 3,000 per month under the Mahalaxmi scheme for women in Maharashtra.
The five guarantees of the Congress included Rs 25 lakh health Insurance and free medicines for the people and free bus service for girls and women. The Congress leader also said that the women in the state will get Rs 3,000 per month under the Mahalaxmi scheme and the unemployed youths will get an allowance of Rs 4,000.
The Congress also promised a caste census in the state, similar to those in Congress-ruled states of Karanataka and Telangana and promised removing the 50% reservation barrier.
The five guarantees were launched in the presence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, and NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar in Mumbai.
While releasing the 'panchsutri' in the Maharashtra capital, Rahul Gandhi said, "This is a battle of ideology. On one hand, we have BJP and RSS, while there is the INDIA alliance on the other hand. On one hand, there is BR Ambedkar's Constitution, equality and mohabbat (love) and respect, while on the other hand, BJP and RSS are trying to abolish the Constitution."
The Raebareli MP hit out at the BJP saying that the inflation shot up during BJP rule and added that Modi’s policies have increased unemployment.
