New Delhi: Stepping up its electoral efforts, BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting was held on Wednesday with key focus on the poll preparations in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, news agency ANI reported. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President JP Nadda were present in the meeting held at the party headquarters in Delhi. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, state party president VD Sharma, and other prominent leaders also attended the meeting.
According to the report, out of 90 seats in Chhattisgarh, the panel had a discussion over the candidates in 27 constituencies, and the seats have been put under four categories – A, B, C and D, to streamline the work.

Category A comprises seats where the BJP has always won in the past, category B has the seats which have had mixed results, category C comprises seats where the saffron party is weak, and D would have the seats where the BJP has never registered a victory, ANI quoted its sources as saying.
Notably, five states -- Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram --are expected to go to the polls later this year, the last round of assembly contest before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Similar CEC meetings are likely to be held for the other states, the report stated.
Notably, the BJP is in power in Madhya Pradesh and has been running intense campaigns to oust the Congress government in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and the BRS in Telangana. The saffron party has been running organisational events in both Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh to boost its support, especially among the communities where its vote share had gone down.
