Delhi Chief Minister Atishi was seen celebrating with AAP workers on Saturday following her victory from the Kalkaji Assembly constituency in the Delhi elections. However, Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal slammed the outgoing CM for her celebratory dance, calling it a "shameless display".

Maliwal made the remark in the light of Aam Aadmi Party's crushing defeat after ruling in Delhi for over a decade. "What kind of shameless display is this? The party lost, all the big leaders lost and Atishi Marlena is celebrating like this?" posted Swati Maliwal on X.

Although a majority of top AAP leaders including party chief Arvind Kejriwal and senior leader Manish Sisodia faced defeat, Atishi managed to retain her Kalkaji seat, defeating BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,521 votes. She secured 52,154 votes, while Bidhuri bagged 48,633 votes.

The contest in Kalkaji was tight and witnessed see-saw trends as Bidhuri took an early lead, suggesting yet another loss for the AAP, which was already grappling to stay afloat. However, she later turned the tide and emerged victorious during the counting of votes in later rounds.

Despite her win, the AAP could not score a hat-trick and managed to bag 22 seats out of 77. BJP, on the other hand, made a historic comeback after 27 years as it swept out AAP, securing 48 seats.

Swati Maliwal on Saturday targeted AAP over losing the Delhi elections, saying that god "punishes" those who commit crime against woman, referring to the alleged assault by Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar at the then CM's residence.
