New Delhi: The new voters' list for the upcoming assembly elections in five states will be released today by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The ECI, during its tour to Lucknow, had made it clear that the new voters' list will be released by January 5, and election dates would be announced after that.
Meanwhile, UP Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ajay Kumar Shukla will also hold a press conference in Lucknow at 3 pm today at the Election Commission’s office with regard to the review of the voters' list.
Since it is the last date to release voters' list, the CEO is likely to share details about it at the press conference. According to ABP News sources, the election dates could be announced and the model code of conduct implemented any time after the release of the new voters' list.
The ECI will also hold a virtual meeting that can be seen as a continuation of their Tuesday meeting which was held to discuss the new guidelines for polls. According to the sources, 10 key points were supposed to be discussed in yesterday's meeting but could not be completed, and hence those matters will be taken up in today's meeting.
After this meeting, the ECI will also hold virtual meetings with the state officers. Only after this meeting the ECI will give a final statement on how the elections will be conducted.
The ECI will also hold a virtual meeting with the Manipur CEO, DGP, Chief Secretary, other senior officials, and representatives of political parties.
