As the counting of votes is currently underway, the early trends project a clean sweep for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the national capital of Delhi, dashing hopes of the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party to make inroads. In Punjab too, the AAP is projected to finish second, leading on merely three seats.

The BJP in Delhi, is projected to secure all seven seats, with a voter percentage of 54.13 percent. The AAP, which won the assembly polls in 2022 with 67 votes, secured a voter percentage of just 26.24 percent. If its alliance partner Congress's voter percentage is also taken into account, their combined vote share is still less than that of the saffron party.

In Punjab, the AAP is projected to win three seats, while the Indian National Congress is anticipated to win seven seats. In terms of voter percentage, the AAP, INC, and BJP secured 26.39 percent, 26.43, and 17.79 percent.

The trends are rather surprising in Punjab as the AAP won the Punjab Assembly elections just last year, securing 91 out of the 117 seats. This poses a serious concern about the party's future here in the farmers' state.

This comes as the Aam Aadmi Party leaders and party chief Arvind Kejriwal claimed to have been targeted by the Modi-led Centre, ahead of the elections, to hinder their political campaigning to "crush the AAP". Exuding confidence, the AAP supremo had time and again stressed that the PM Modi-led government will not be able to win in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Kejriwal Claimed BJP Will Not Come To Power In Delhi & Other States

Ever since the arrest of the Delhi CM, the party made it a critical aspect of their Lok Sabha campaign to hit out at the BJP-led government for being involved in his arrest. The I.N.D.I.A bloc aimed to dent BJP’s dominance, trying to sway the sympathy wave towards Kejriwal’s imprisonment, along with highlighting issues like inflation and unemployment.

Sunita Kejriwal, Delhi CM's wife said during a campaign, "If you want your Chief Minister (Arvind Kejriwal) to not go to jail again, everyone must vote on May 25. You have to show the power of your vote and press the button of broom (AAP symbol)."

Kejriwal, ahead of surrendering back to the Tihar jail on June 2, said during a public rally in Jangpura, "Now they are saying that Kejriwal has to go to jail on June 2... It is up to you whether I will go or not. If you press the 'Lotus' button, then I have to go and if you press the 'Jhaadu' button, then I will keep roaming among you freely..."

“The recent arrest of the incumbent Chief Minister was the final straw... This arrest has incensed the people of Delhi," the party claimed.

Arvinfd Kejriwal in his first press conference after coming out of the jail on the 21-day interim bail came down heavily on PM Modi for "keeping him inside jail" and said that the PM-led government will not retain power and that the I.N.D.I.A bloc will form the government.
