Fahad Ahmad, the NCP (SCP) candidate and husband of Bollywood actor Swara Bhasker, is leading in Maharashtra's Anushakti Nagar assembly seat, as Sana Malik, daughter of former MLA Nawab Malik, trails in the vote count. The contest in Anushakti Nagar has been a focal point, with Fahad Ahmad standing against Sana Malik, who represents the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction. Fahad, previously the state president of the Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha, left the Samajwadi Party in October to join the NCP (SCP).

Anushakti Nagar Assembly Seat: Fahad Ahmad Leads Over Sana Malik 

Historically, Anushakti Nagar has seen close electoral battles. In 2019, Nawab Malik won the seat for the NCP with 65,217 votes, defeating Shiv Sena’s Tukaram Ramkrushna Kate by a margin of 12,751 votes. In 2014, Kate secured victory, narrowly edging out Malik by 1,007 votes.

This time, the NCP fielded Nawab Malik’s daughter Sana in Anushakti Nagar, while he contested from the Mankhurd-Shivajinagar constituency.  

Fahad Ahmad, who holds an M.Phil from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai and is an alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University, has been active in student and youth politics. He married Swara Bhaskar on February 16, 2023.

Maharashtra Key Numbers And Set-Up

The 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly requires any party or alliance to secure at least 145 seats to form the government.  

Mahayuti Alliance:

BJP: 149 seatsShiv Sena (Shinde faction): 81 seatsNCP (Ajit Pawar faction): 59 seats

MVA Combine:

Congress: 101 seatsShiv Sena (UBT): 95 seatsNCP (Sharad Pawar faction): 86 seats

Other notable participants include the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), fielding 237 candidates, and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), contesting 17 seats.
