Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will submit his resignation as MLA from Karhal Assembly seat after winning the Lok Sabha elections 2024 from Kannauj constituency. Former Mainpuri MP and Akhilesh's nephew, Tej Pratap Yadav will stake the claim from the Karhal Assembly seat, as per ABP News sources.
The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister reclaimed the Yadav family fortress of Kannauj by winning the seat with 6,42,292 votes defeating sitting BJP MP Subrat Pathak by 1,70,922 votes.
With his resignation, the SP supremo will also give up the post of Leader of Opposititon in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly and the decision on who will take up the post will be made after Akhilesh's Delhi visit.
Notably, Tej Pratap Yadav was initially given the party ticket to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Kannauj seat but the decision was later changed due to dissatisfaction of party workers who wanted Akhilesh to fight from the constituency.

The Samajwadi Party finished first in the Lok Sabha results bagging 37 seats from the strategically important state of Uttar Pradesh which sends 80 lawmakers to the Lower House of the Parliament.
In an open note, Akhilesh hailed the "sensible voters" of Uttar Pradesh after the victory attributing the success to the PDA (Pichada, Dalit and Alpasankhyak) strategy and efforts put in by the alliance.
"Dear intelligent voters of Uttar Pradesh, the victory of India bloc in the state is also the victory of the Dalit-Bahujan trust which, along with backward, minority, tribal, 'half population' (women) and all neglected, exploited, oppressed, backwards among the upper castes, has fought shoulder to shoulder to save the Constitution that gives the right to equality, respect, self-respect, dignified life and reservation," he said on X.
