Veteran Cong Leader Says His Son, A BJP Candidate, Anil K Antony Should Lose Polls

Responding to persistent inquiries regarding his son's political affiliations, AK Antony emphasized, "The Congress is my religion."

Veteran Congress leader A K Antony has stated that his son, Anil K Antony, who is contesting as a BJP candidate in the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, should be defeated.

During a press conference, Antony expressed his desire for his son's party to face defeat. Endorsing his rival, AK Antony pitched that the Congress candidate in the south Kerala constituency, Anto Antony, should win.

Furthermore, he criticised the act of children of Congress leaders aligning with the BJP as "wrong." Responding to persistent inquiries regarding his son's political affiliations, Antony emphasized, "The Congress is my religion."

The 83-year-old former Chief Minister of Kerala expressed his determination to address the media despite health concerns, emphasizing the importance of clarifying his stance in what he perceives as an election crucial for "safeguarding the idea of India and its constitution." Antony, who is India's longest-serving Defence Minister, described the forthcoming election as a "do-or-die battle."

Antony attributed his decision not to campaign outside Thiruvananthapuram for the Congress party to health reasons. He expressed confidence that even without his campaign efforts in Pathanamthitta, Anto Antony would secure victory with an overwhelming majority, as per a report on PTI.

In a press statement in Thiruvananthapuram, the senior Congress leader emphasized his party's ongoing battle against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP, and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Responding to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's accusations that the Congress was avoiding national issues, he expressed skepticism stating that the people of Kerala wouldn't take them seriously and the Congress wasn't avoiding national issues.

Additionally, he highlighted the progress of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc and anticipated the BJP's decline, suggesting an opportunity for their party to assume power.
