Congress workers in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, waved black flags during the passage of Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal's convoy on Sunday (June 18). The incident occurred while Kejriwal was on his way to a public event in the city, highlighting the region's ongoing political tensions between the Congress and the AAP, news agency ANI posted a video of the same on Twitter.
During a speech in poll-bound state, Kejriwal pointed guns at the BJP and the Congress and promised a "new Rajasthan" if his party is elected. During his rally, he focused on the ongoing infighting within the state's ruling Congress, with CM Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot splitting into opposing camps over the issue of corruption.
Pilot has been criticising the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in Rajasthan for allegedly failing to investigate corruption allegations levelled by him against the previous Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government.
"Sachin Pilot kept asking him to arrest Vasundhara Raje, but Ashok Gehlot said I will not arrest her, she is like my sister," he said, urging people to vote for the AAP's patriotism-focused politics instead.
"Both the Congress and the BJP are involved in corruption," Kejriwal said of CM Gehlot and the previous BJP government led by Vasundhara Raje. "During Vasundhara Raje's government, Ashok Gehlot accused them of corruption; now, Ashok Gehlot's government is in power. Rajasthan is in debt to the tune of Rs 5.50 lakh crore. Where did the money go?" Kejriwal wondered, citing the state's lack of development.
The Aam Aadmi Party, which governs in Delhi and Punjab, recently accelerated its rise to national party status after winning five seats in the Gujarat Assembly election. The party is now attempting to expand its presence in Rajasthan, which will hold elections later this year. At the rally, Kejriwal was accompanied by Bhagwant Mann as the AAP launched its campaign in the desert state.
The AAP chief also said that the country is still poor and backward as a result of the BJP and Congress, which have ruled the country for 75 years. He stated that he intends to make India the top country in the world within the next ten years.
