New Delhi: Popular Telugu actor and former MLA Jayasudha joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, news agency ANI reported. Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy and BJP general secretary and state in-charge Tarun Chugh inducted her into the party fold at an event held at BJP office in Delhi.

“We have to serve this country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Today when we go out of India, people talk about India. What we are today is because of PM Modi,” Jayasudha told ANI.

According to reports, the development comes just a few days after Telangana BJP chief Kishan Reddy met Jayasudha and formally invited her. The invitation to Jayasudha comes as a part of the saffron party’s efforts to boost its prospects ahead of the Telangana assembly elections scheduled later this year.

Reports stated that Jayasudha is likely to be fielded from Secunderabad Assembly constituency which she once represented.

Jayasudha, who played leading roles in several Telegu films in 1970s and 1980s, had joined politics at the invitation of Congress leader and then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy in 2009. She was elected to Andhra Pradesh Assembly from Secunderabad constituency in 2009. However, could not retain the seat in the 2014 polls.

Jayasudha then quit the Congress to join the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 2016.

Later in 2019, Jayasudha, along with her son Nihar Kapoor, joined YSR Congress Party headed by YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who was elected the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh the same year.
