New Delhi: The BJP-Shiv Sena combine is pegged to win 37 seats in Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, while the Congress-NCP alliance may bag 11 seats, according to ABP News and Nielsen’s latest survey. The opinion poll is commissioned to gauge the mood of the voters of the state.


The figures could bother the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Sena as it had bagged 41 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra in the 2014 general elections. The BJP won 23 while 18 seats by the Sena. The Congress had won only two seats, while the NCP did a tad better by winning four.


Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls will be held in four phases in Maharashtra starting from the Vidarbha region on April 11, ABP News-Nielsen Survey conducted survey to know the mood of the voters. In the survey, NDA is projected to win 37 seats while UPA may get 11 out of the 48 LS seats in Maharashtra.


For the Lok Sabha election 2019, the two saffron parties in the state, BJP and the Shiv Sena, had announced their poll pact for upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Maharashtra. The BJP will contest 25 seats and Shiv Sena 23 of 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra. The two parties will contest equal number of seats, along with their other allies, in elections for the 288-member state Assembly, due this year.


For the election, The Congress and the NCP along with smaller regional parties announced seat sharing formula where Congress will contest on 24 seats, NCP will bag 20 seats, Bahujan Vikas Aghadi on 1 seat, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana on 2 seats, Yuva Swabhimani Paksha on 1 seat.

In Maharashtra, voting will be held on April 11 for seven seats, namely Wardha, Ramtek, Nagpur, Bhandara-Gondiya, Gadchiroli-Chimur, Chandrapur and Yavatmal-Washim, all in Vidarbha region.


The seats that will vote in the second phase on April 18 are Buldana, Akola, Amravati, Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani, Beed, Osmanabad, Latur and Solapur constituencies. Most of these seats fall under Marathwada region.


A total of 14 Lok Sabha seats will go to polls on April 23 during the third phase. They include Jalgaon, Raver, Jalna, Aurangabad, Raigad, Pune, Baramati, Ahmednagar, Madha, Sangli, Satara, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Kolhapur and Hatkanangle.


The final phase of polling in Maharashtra will be held on April 29 when 17 constituencies including Nandurbar, Dhule, Dindori, Nashik, Palghar, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Thane, Mumbai North, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai South-Central, Mumbai South, Maval, Shirur and Shirdi will go for polls.


The total number of voters in Maharashtra, as on January 25, stood at 8,73,30,484 as against 8,07,98,823 in 2014. The number of voters has gone up by over 65 lakh since 2014 while more than 11,000 new polling booths have been added in urban areas. Simultaneously, around 6,000 polling booths in rural areas have been cancelled.

  • The survey also predicts that in Nagpur – NDA’s Nitin Gadkari is expected to win while in Baramati, UPA’s Supriya Sule predicted to win this seat. In Raigad, NDA’s Anant Geete is expected to lose this seat.

  • The survey has pointed out that there is a loss of 5 seats to the NDA while the gain for UPA is of 5 seats.

  • Actor Urmila Matondkar on Wednesday joined the Congress after meeting party Chief Rahul Gandhi at his residence. The Bollywood actor is speculated to contest the Lok Sabha election from the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency and if at the Congress fields her from here, she will probably have to bite the dust.

  • AIMIM has joined hands with Maharashtra's Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar to launch a new political front, the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), for the Lok Sabha polls. The survey has found that the alliance is denting the prospects of UPA. Ambedkar is predicted to lose from Solapur and the seat is likely to be bagged by the NDA.
