New Delhi: A day after ABP News exposed several leaders selling votes for money in its election special programme "Operation Newton", the Election Commission on Wednesday took cognisance of the matter and FIRs were registered against 6 people.
According to reports, two cases were registered in Ayodhya, one each in Amethi, Sultanpur, Barabanki and Unnao.
In the show, ABP News has shown how Radhey Shyam, the candidate of Milkipur assembly of Ayodhya had agreed to a deal of 4 thousand votes for Rs 4 lakh.
Another independent candidate from Ayodhya, Kusum Kumar had demanded Rs 1 lakh for his 1,000 votes.
A case has been registered against Radhey Shyam at Inayatpur police station in Ayodhya, while the case against Kusum Kumar was registered at Mavai police station in Ayodhya.
Other people involved in the scandal were Sultanpur constituency's Lambhua seat candidate Dharmnath Gautam, Unnao's independent candidate Anil Tiwari, Mamta Lodhi, Mohammad Ashfaq and Babu Lal.
Another person named Anil was also ready to transfer his 10 thousand votes in favor of any party in the Purva assembly seat of Unnao for Rs 2 crore.
FIRs were lodged for violation of the model code of conduct (MCC). Cases were registered under sections of the Representation of the People Act including others.
