Lucknow: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday filed his nomination from Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow constituency for the Lok Sabha election.


The state president of the BJP's Scheduled Caste (SC) wing, Kaushal Kishore, is also set to file his nomination from the Mohan Lalganj parliamentary seat.

During the nomination of the BJP candidates, several ministers and BJP office bearers including Union Minister of State Hansraj Ahir, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma were present.

Rajnath Singh reached the party's state headquarters in the morning and addressed the workers in Lucknow. The Union Home Minister also held a roadshow via the party office, Hazratganj Chauraha, District Magistrate's (DM) residence and reached the office of the collector at 12 noon.

Rajnath Singh who secured a thumping win in the 2014 general elections shall be seeking a second term from Lucknow, which as per political pundits is termed as BJP's bastion in the Awadh region in Uttar Pradesh.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, UP minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi, then with the Congress, was Rajnath Singh's biggest challenger. She managed about 2,80,000 votes to Rajnath Singh's 5,60,000. Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) came in third while the Samajwadi Party was fourth.
