Varanasi: In what comes as a heart-warming gesture, PM Narendra Modi while passing through a Muslim-dominated area in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi stopped to accept a shawl from an elder in the crowds.

In a video which has got the internet buzzing , a man in the crowd is seen waving a shawl as Modi's cavalcade passes through the area.

Modi saw his elderly supporter with a shawl in his hand after which he asked his cavalcade to be stopped. One of the security guards from the prime minister's security detail then walked up to the man and asked the shawl to be tossed to him as they were separated due to the crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of the PM.

After the PM received the shawl, he flung it around his shoulders and the cavalcade moved. It is not uncommon for politicians to engage with their supporters at such rallies, the incident achieved viral status owing to BJP's Hindu Nationalist credentials and the incident occurring in a Muslim-dominated area.
