Salem: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Pannerselvam.V from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) won the elections by a margin of 267610 votes. The polling / voting in Salem constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 2 on 18 April. The major contest is between All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam#s K. R. S. Saravanan and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam#s S R Parthiban

Salem 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won 37 out of the 39 parliamentary seat with 44.3 percent vote share while the Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win just 1 seats with a 5.5 percent vote share.

Out of the 25 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Salem, 22 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Pannerselvam.V of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam as he defeated Umarani. S by a margin of 267610 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Thangkabalu K. V. attained 444591 votes and ADMK's Rajasekaran. A bagged 268964 votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate defeated TRC candidate with a difference of 25411 votes. Here, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Selvaganapathi, T.M. attained 363689 votes and TRC candidate Ramamurthy, K. bagged 338278 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha poll, Independent candidate defated TMC(M) candidate in one-sided contest. Here, IND candidate Ramamurthy K. attained 365557 votes and TMC(M)'s Devadass R. bagged 229677 votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha poll, TMC(M) candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, TMC(M) candidate Devadass.R attained 315277 votes and INC's Thangkabalu K.V bagged 194392 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Rangarajanm Kumaramangalam attained 406042 votes and DMK's Arthanarisamy K.P. bagged 123474 votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Rangarajan Kumarmangalam attained 400936 votes and DMK's Karthikeyan M. bagged 159166 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Rangarajan Kumar Mangalam attained 359819 votes and JNP's Kandasamy M.A. bagged 123644 votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate defeated ADK candidate with a difference of 26258 votes. Here, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Palaniappan C. attained 233971 votes and ADK candidate Kamnan P. bagged 207713 votes
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, ADK candidate had defeated DMK candidate by a margin of 79604 votes ADK candidate Kannan P. had got 254138 while DMK got Rajaram K. votes.

  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate had defeated INC candidate by a margin of 63509 votes DMK candidate K. Rajaram had got 219380 while INC got R. Ramakrishnan votes.
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated DMK candidate with a difference of 11738 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader S. V. Ramaswamy attained 147525 votes and DMK candidate K. Rajagopal bagged 135787 votes
  • 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated IND candidate by a margin of 54578 votes INC candidate S. V. Ramasami had got 85342 while IND got S. K. Babie Kandasami votes.
