Background

Khunti: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Karia Munda from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 92248 votes. The polling / voting in Khunti constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 5 on 6 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Arjun Munda and Congress Party#s Kalicharan munda

Khunti 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 12 out of the 14 parliamentary seat with 40.1 percent vote share while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha managed to win just 2 seats with a 9.3 percent vote share.

The total voter turnout was 66.28% Lok Sabha percent with 65.98% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 66.60% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 23816 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 14 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Khunti, 11 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Karia Munda of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Anosh Ekka by a margin of 92248 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate by a margin of 51226 votes INC candidate Sushila Kerketta had got 218158 while BJP got Kariya Munda votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 26262 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Kariya Munda attained 187484 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Sushila Kerketta bagged 161222 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 39949 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Kariya Munda attained 200406 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Sushila Kerketta bagged 160457 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 27672 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Kariya Munda attained 138765 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Sushila Kerketta bagged 111093 votes
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Jharkhand Party candidate with a difference of 43374 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Karia Munda attained 123583 votes and Jharkhand Party candidate Niral Enem Horo bagged 80209 votes
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Bharatiya Janta Party and JKD here Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated his JKD counterpart with a difference of 3785 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Independent candidate with a difference of 33010 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Simon Tigga attained 97721 votes and Independent candidate Nirel Enem Horo bagged 64711 votes
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, JKD candidate defeated JNP candidate with a difference of 19879 votes. Here, JKD leader Nirel Enem Horo attained 74279 votes and JNP candidate Karia Munda bagged 54400 votes
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, BLD candidate defeated JKD candidate with a difference of 34883 votes. Here, BLD leader Karia Munda attained 91859 votes and JKD candidate Nirel Mundu bagged 56976 votes
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Independent and BJS here Independent candidate defeated his BJS counterpart with a difference of 2814 votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and IND here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his IND counterpart with a difference of 5277 votes.
