Background

The 2019 ICC World Cup shall get underway in a short while from now as hosts England take on South Africa in the opening match at the Oval in London. While England have been dubbed as one of the pre-tournament favourites, Proteas are looking to shed their chokers tag and prove the critics wrong by winning their maiden World Cup. South African captain Faf Du Plessis won the toss and invited England to bat first. South Africa havent included Chris Morris and David Miller in their playing eleven. They are also going into the game without their pace spearhead Dale Steyn. Here is the playing eleven for both the teams

South Africa (Playing XI): Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock(w), Aiden Markram, Faf du Plessis(c), Rassie van der Dussen, Jean-Paul Duminy, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir

England (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan(c), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler(w), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Liam Plunkett, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid

Both England and South Africa come into the tournament at the back of bilateral series wins against Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively. England and South Africa have faced off against each other five times at the World Cup with the Proteas having the slight edge over the hosts. Both England and South Africa warmed up well ahead of the showpiece events getting a win under their belt. England lost the first match to defending champions Australia but returned strong against Afghanistan. On the other hand, Faf du Plessis & Co jolted Sri Lanka in the first match. They couldn’t play the second against West Indies as rain played the spoilsport.
