Varanasi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday introduced a new scholarship scheme at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University for all Sanskrit students across the state, as reported by news agency PTI. He also unveiled plans to revive traditional Gurukul-style residential Sanskrit schools in Uttar Pradesh.
The chief minister emphasised Sanskrit's potential as a language for scientific and technical education, urging students to take it seriously. "Advocating for Sanskrit is akin to advocating for humanity," he said, noting that past administrations had overlooked its educational importance.
Addressing the audience, Adityanath remarked, "Sanskrit is not just the ‘Dev-Vani’ but also a scientific language applicable to modern fields like computer science and artificial intelligence." He highlighted its simplicity and technical adaptability, underscoring the government’s dedication to its preservation and advancement.
Explaining the scholarship scheme's impact, Adityanath noted that previously, only 300 students were eligible for scholarships, and they faced age restrictions. The new program aims to extend scholarship benefits to all eligible students. He instructed students to open bank accounts to facilitate direct and secure scholarship fund transfers. He initiated the distribution of Rs 586 lakh in scholarships to 69,195 students across the state.

Emphasising the importance of Sanskrit and India's cultural heritage, Adityanath announced the reintroduction of the Gurukul education system in Uttar Pradesh. "This traditional system is the true strength of our nation and can lead India toward global leadership," he stated.
Additional support will be provided to Gurukul institutions, especially those offering free accommodations and meals, and they will have the autonomy to recruit qualified Acharyas.
