West Bengal: Class 10 Board Exam English Paper Circulated On Social Media

WBBSE president Ramanuj Ganguly has denied allegations of paper leak citing that the images of question papers were circulated on social media after the commencement of the exams.

In a recent development, the images of English question paper in the West Bengal Board Exams 2024 were allegedly circulated on social media, shortly after the commencement of the exam on Saturday, a day after the images of Bengali subject paper went viral in a similar fashion. As per West Bengal Board of Secondary Examinations president Ramanuj Ganguly, a total of 12 students have been punished into the matter by far after the scrutiny of English question papers shared on social media confirmed their authenticity. The concerned students have been debarred from the WB Board Exams 2024 and their exams for the Bengali paper have also been cancelled. 

This is not the first incident where images of West Bengal Board Exam question papers this year have been reported doing rounds on social media. Earlier, two students were caught and punished after they clicked photos of the Bengali question paper and circulated it on social media on Friday. 

Among the 12 students who have been punished in the matter, 11 students hail from Enayetpur High School and Gayeswari Piyaribhusan Bidyaniketan in Malda district, while one hails from Amguri Rammohan High School in Jalpaiguri district, Ganguly said. However, he denied any claims of the question paper being leaked since the images were circulated on social media after the commencement of the exams. 

“They were found to be involved in clicking photos of the English question paper with mobile phones inside examination centres and circulating those on WhatsApp… we want to deal with the issue firmly but without jeopardising their career. So, we won’t be pressing any charges against them,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by news agency PTI  in the matter. 

“Children are being used by some people to malign the state government and disrupt the examination process. We urge those behind this to desist from such self-destructive acts,” he added.

West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu also underlined the incident as a sinister effort from some quarters to disrupt the ongoing board exams in West Bengal. “However, such an effort will not succeed and those plotting conspiracies to malign the state will be exposed before the candidates and their parents for playing with their future,” Basu said.
