New Delhi: Toppers of Class 10 and 12 were taken on a helicopter ride by the Chhattisgarh government on Saturday in Raipur as promised by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. In May this year, Baghel had announced that meritorious students will be taken on a helicopter ride along with district toppers.
The students were ecstatic after taking a ride in the helicopter and said that such activities motivate them to do better next time.
"We felt really good, it was for the first time that we had a helicopter ride. Other students will also be encouraged to perform well in their studies. Our parents were excited too," said the students while speaking to ANI.
State minister Premsai Singh Tekam while speaking to the news agency also reiterated that the move was to encourage children to do better in academics.
"Programme is to encourage students as CM announced that students who would top in classes 10 & 12 will be provided with a helicopter ride. That promise was fulfilled", he was quoted by ANI.
Among the 125 to take a joyride, 90 students topped in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams while 35 held the merit for Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams.
In May, Baghel had made the announcement to provide free rides to children who perform well in the exams.
"Air travel is something everyone desires. I believe that a helicopter ride will inculcate in the minds of children a desire to fly high in the skies of life and they will sharpen their skills even more to achieve their goal," the chief minister had told PTI.
The Class 10 and Class 12 results for the 2022 board exams were declared by the Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE), or CG board on May 14.
