UPSC 2020 Civil Service Exam: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has for the first time ever given the Civil Services and Indian Forest Service aspirants a provision to change their centers due to the pandemic. Many candidates had requested the UPSC for a change in centers due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

According to the notice, “The window of submitting the revised choice of Centres by the candidates will be operational in two phases i.e. 7th-13th July 2020 (06.00 PM) and 20th-24th July 2020 (06.00 PM) on the Commission’s website upsconline.nic.in.”

The request to change the center will be considered on a "first apply-first allot" basis and capacity of the centre itself. If the centre has reached its maximum capacity then requests for the same centre will not be taken but candidates can choose from the others which are available. Only those candidates who submitted their applications from '12-02-2020 and 03-03-2020' will be allowed this option.

The notification also says that candidates will also get the opportunity to withdraw their applications. “The Commission will also make a Withdrawal Window available to the candidates on the Commission’s website https://upsconline.nic.in during the period from 1-8 August 2020.” So candidates who wish to withdraw from the examination can do so on the website between 1-8 August. The candidates who withdraw their application cannot revive in the future under any circumstances.

The date of examination has been set to be conducted on October 4, 2020, based on the revised calendar issued by the UPSC on June 5th. All the conditions and eligibility mentioned in February remain unchanged.  This is for the first time that the Union Public Service Commission is changing the centres for the candidates due to the pandemic and the ongoing lockdown, there are many travel restrictions still, which has caused a lot of disruptions for students. Many state boards allowed it, students, to change their centres before the examinations as well.
