The University Grants Commission (UGC) has extended the deadline to receive comments/feedback/suggestions on setting up and operations of foreign university campuses in India up to February 20. This is the second time that the UGC has extended the deadline for the submission of feedback/comments/suggestions on the establishment and foreign university operations on Indian soil.
The UGC has earlier revised the deadline for submitting feedback on foreign university operations in India up to February 3. The UGC on Thursday, February 2, released a notice on its official website, extending the deadline for feedback submissions.
“This is in continuation of the public Notice issued by I.JGC earlier vide F. No. l-312022(NEP) dated 5,h & l6tl' Janu ary 2023 seeking comments from the stakeholders on the draft University Grants Commission (Setting up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India) Regulations, 2023. In view of the requests being received from the stakeholders to extend the last date for submitting comments/suggestions/feedback on the aforesaid draft Regulations, the last date is hereby further extended to 20tl' February 2023,” read the official notice.

Notably, the University Grants Commission has recently drafted a set of regulations to govern and monitor the establishment of foreign university campuses in India. However, the draft regulations have met with mixed reactions from excerpts from academia as well as the industry. Following the pouring in of several debates, the positives as well as the negatives around setting up of foreign university campuses in India, the UGC invited feedback and comments from various stakeholders on the matter.
The UGC has framed a new regulation which allows Global Top 500 Universities and Institutions to set up their campuses in India. The draft also allows such universities to repatriate the earned profits from their prospective Indian campuses to their parent institution without any restriction.
