A 13-year-old boy has allegedly killed himself in the Bhiwandi town of Thane district in Maharashtra, news agency PTI reported. The parents of the boy were reported claiming that the deceased was subjected to bullying in school, the police said on Thursday. As per an official, the incident reportedly took place in the Madhav Nagar area of the town on Wednesday evening.


The deceased student, Sajid S, studied at a local Madrassa school and on returning home from school on Wednesday evening, he complained to his parents of being bullied by some boys. 


Following the complaint, the student was later found hanging in his room, the police were reported as saying. Following the incident, a case of accidental death has been registered by the police and the body has been sent for autopsy. The official further said that the actual reason of the suicide is yet to be ascertained and a probe into the matter is underway.

The incident marks another case of bullying of students in schools and in the larger purview; in educational institutions across the country. In a similar incident reported earlier this month, a school girl allegedly committed suicide after being subjected to harassment by one her school teachers, as per a PTI report. The 12-year-old Class 6 student was also reportedly left a suicide note in which she underlined being harassed by a teacher in her school. 


Following the incident,City Superintendent of Police (Ambikapur) Smruthik Rajnala was reported saying that the teacher was arrested under section 305 of the Indian Penal Code. "A forensic team collected evidence from the spot and the post-mortem was conducted. Statements of the girl's parents, students and teachers of the school were recorded. The suicide note was examined by a handwriting expert," he was quoted as saying.
