School Syllabus, Teaching Hours May Be Reduced For Students After Requests From Teachers And Parents

The Minister of Human Resource and Development has said that the department considering reducing school syllabus and class hours in the new academic session.

New Delhi: In series of tweets Minister of Human Resource and Development Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has said that the Ministry is contemplating reducing syllabus and instructional hours for the coming academic year.

According to the minister, he has been receiving a lot of requests from parents and teachers to reduce the syllabus.

In a tweet, he wrote, “In view of the current circumstances and after receiving a lot of requests from parents and teachers, we are contemplating the option of reduction in the syllabus and instructional hours for the coming academic year.”


In the following tweet, Nishank also requested academicians to send in their suggestions via Twitter or Facebook. “I would like to appeal to all teachers, academicians, and educationists to share their point of view on this matter using #SyllabusForStudents2020 on MHRD's or my Twitter and Facebook page so that we can take them into consideration while making a decision.”

Due to the abrupt declaration of the nationwide lockdown, the education system did not have time to figure out the future, while classes did commence online, not every child had access to those classes.

Educational institutes are now trying to decide on the next step. Some states like Tamil Nadu have decided not to conduct final exams or Board exams and pass the students to the next sessions.

Earlier, MHRD announced that the decision to reopen schools will be taken after the results of Class 10 and 12 CBSE boards are declared which will be after August 15, 2020.
