Supreme Court permits NEET UG 2019 re-exam for Odisha, Bengaluru, Siliguri students; exam on May 20

The Supreme Court of India has given its nod to reconduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam (NEET) UG 2019 on 20th May 2019.

NEET UG 2019 Re-Exam: The Supreme Court of India has given its nod to reconduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam (NEET) UG 2019 on 20th May 2019. The national level medical entrance exam for MBBS/BDS admissions is allowed to be organized again for seven districts of Odisha which were badly hit by Cyclone Fani, along with students traveling through Hampi Express train number 16591 to Bengaluru on the original scheduled date of NEET UG 2019 – 5th May 2019. The re-exam will also be held for students of Siliguri who were not given Hindi medium papers despite their selection of the language during application submission. The examination will be held in a single shift from 10 am to 1 pm, in all three states on 20th May 2019. Here’s a brief on how the events unfolded for the three states that led to NEET UG 2019 Re-Exam. NEET UG 2019 Re-Exam in Odisha: The request to postpone NEET UG 2019 was forwarded by the Chief Minister of the state of Odisha as normal life in the state was crippled due to cyclonic storm Fani. The National Testing Agency had issued a notice in advance on 4 th May 2019, a day ahead of the scheduled date of exam, stating that the examination stands “postponed only for the Candidates having Examination Centres in Odisha until further notice.” Later on 6 th May 2019, NTA had announced the rescheduled date i.e. 20 th May 2019. MHRD Minister, Shri R. Subrahmanyam broke the news with his tweet bringing a sigh of relief of NEET aspirants in the eastern state, “#NEET exam for Odisha will be held on 20th May @CMO_Odisha @HRDMinistry” NEET UG 2019 Re-Exam in Bengaluru: On the scheduled date of NEET UG 2019 exam, Sunday 5 th May 2019, hundreds of students en route Bengaluru via train number 16591 Hampi Express were left stranded due to repair works at South Western Railways. The student could not reach their designated examination centers by 1:30 pm. Rather, most of the affected students reached their exam centres around 2:30 pm and were not allowed entry. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy tweeted his concerns to the MHRD asking for a re-exam for the affected students. The re-exam date was announced by MHRD Minister, Shri Prakash Javadekar who took to Twitter, and stated, “Happy to announce that #Karnataka Students who missed #NEET exam , due to railway delay will get another chance. @MoHFW_INDIA @HRDMinistry @PIB_India @MIB_India @DG_NTA @cbseindia29 @ciet_ncert @DDNewsLive @airnewsalerts @DVSBJP @CMofKarnataka” NEET UG 2019 Re-Exam in Siliguri, West Bengal: On Sunday, 5 th May, candidates at Centre No. 460906, Surendra Institute of Engineering & Management, Dhukuria, P.O. New Chamta, Siliguri-734009 were not provided with NEET UG 2019 papers in Hindi Medium. The authorities took note of the requests of the affected candidates and decided to allow them to appear for the re-exam in their previously selected language of examination. The affected students must note that today is the last date to submit their grievances along with documentary proof before 5 pm of 10/05/2019. Read NTA’s Notice here
