At the Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalitha University of Music & Arts Convocation ceremony, Chief Minister MK Stalin delivered a thought-provoking address, emphasizing the crucial role of the Chancellor in universities. Setting politics aside, he highlighted the practical significance of the State's ruling Chief Minister assuming the role of Chancellor, particularly for the development of educational institutions.

"This University has the right that State ruling CM can be a Chancellor. I am not speaking of politics, just explaining practically. If CM is the Chancellor of Universities, only then Universities would be developed. If that is in other hands, the goal of Universities would be destroyed. Realising this in 2013, former CM Jayalalithaa decided that the Chancellor of this University would be the CM. For this, we can appreciate her wholeheartedly. I also appreciate her thinking about today's situation," said CM MK Stalin.

Secure Release Of Fisherman Detained In Oman: Stalin

Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, M K Stalin, expressed concern regarding the safety of a fisherman from the state reportedly detained in Oman. He urged the External Affairs Ministry to employ diplomatic channels for his swift repatriation.

The family of the affected individual, Pethalis, is anxious about his well-being after he was taken to an undisclosed location in Oman by unidentified individuals, revealed the chief minister.

Pethalis, hailing from Kanniyakumari district and the son of Siluvai Antony, was part of an 18-member crew from Tamil Nadu working on fishing boats registered under Ujala Amrohi in Oman. The chief minister, in a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, highlighted the situation where the crew allegedly faced unpaid salaries from the boat's owner.

The letter further detailed a dispute between the owner and the fishermen, particularly led by Pethalis. As a result, unknown individuals reportedly took Pethalis to an undisclosed location, leaving his wife, Shoba Rani, seeking assistance for his safe return to India. Copies of this correspondence were made available to the media for awareness.

"I request you to direct the Indian Mission in Oman to take the necessary steps through appropriate diplomatic channels to repatriate Thiru. Pethalis," he said in the letter.
