New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday sought responses from the Centre and others regarding a plea challenging the National Medical Commission's (NMC) decision not to conduct the NEET-Super Speciality (NEET-SS) examination in 2024.
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Super Speciality (NEET-SS) is available to doctors with post-graduate degrees such as MD, MS, and DNB, or equivalent qualifications, for admission to super-specialty courses.
A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra heard from a lawyer representing 13 aspirants that the NMC has decided not to hold the exam this year. According to news reports, NEET-SS is likely to be conducted in January 2025.
While issuing notices to the Centre, the Medical Counselling Committee, and the NMC, the bench also allowed petitioners Rahul Balwan and 12 others to include the National Board of Examinations (NBE) as a party to the petition. The case is scheduled for hearing on July 26.
Referring to an earlier judgment, the petitioners argued that NEET-SS must be held annually and that the Supreme Court has already fixed the timetable for admission to super-specialty courses. The lawyer suggested that the decision to postpone the exam this year may have been influenced by delays in medical course admissions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

SC Directs NTA To Publish Results Of All NEET UG Candidates
The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish the results of all students in the NEET-UG Exams 2024 while ensuring the privacy of all candidates. The case will be revisited for arguments on Monday. The NTA is expected to declare the centre-wise results on its website by Saturday.
Chief Justice Chandrachud's bench dismissed the Centre's argument that exam centre data should be concealed along with students' identities. The Supreme Court also declined Solicitor General Tushar Mehta's request to withhold the exam centre-wise data.
