New Delhi: The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) Group-I Main examinations commenced on Monday after the Supreme Court refused to stay their conduct. Held at 46 centers in the afternoon, the exams proceeded following the apex court's dismissal of petitions from candidates who had sought to challenge the Telangana High Court's decision not to postpone the exams.
The Supreme Court on Monday declined to stay the ongoing examination, stating that such an order would create "chaos."
“The examination is set to begin at 2 pm… Staying the exam at this stage will lead to chaos,” remarked a bench consisting of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, as senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing a petitioner, sought an interim stay.
“The exam is happening today, and students have already entered the exam centres," the bench further noted.
Sibal argued that aspirants could miss the opportunity to take the exam, which is being conducted for the first time in Telangana.
The TGPSC Group-I mains examination began on Monday and will continue until October 27 for the 563 vacancies, as reported by news agency PTI.
A total of 31,383 candidates have qualified for the mains exam, which is being held for the first time since the formation of Telangana, and after it was last conducted in 2011.
The reservation policy being followed by TGPSC, as per a government order (GO), has been challenged in the Supreme Court by Pogula Rambabu. The apex court acknowledged that the Telangana High Court was handling the matter and directed it to resolve the issue before the results are announced.
Candidates have been protesting against the GO, demanding the exams be rescheduled, arguing that Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and other backward classes are disadvantaged under its reservation provisions.
