The honourable President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Teachers’ Award 2023 to 75 selected teachers today at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The award ceremony was organised by the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education on the occasion of National Teachers’ Day 2023 today, September 5, celebrated on the birth anniversary of former President of India Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Addressing the presentation ceremony of the National Teachers Award, President Murmu said that quality education is the fundamental right of every child and the role of educators is of utmost importance in nation-building.
“Today, on the occasion of 'Teacher's Day', I heartily congratulate all the teachers who have been honored with the National Award. I understand that on this day especially, everyone misses their student life and also misses their teachers. On behalf of all the countrymen, I express my respect to the dedicated teachers,” President Murmu said while addressing the award ceremony. “On this day, I not only remember my respected teachers, but also the children whom I taught at the Sri Aurobindo Integral School in Rai Rangpur, Odisha. I include the love of those children among the biggest achievements of my life,” she further added.
“From Charak, Sushruta and Aryabhata to Pokhran and Chandrayaan-3, our teachers and students get to know in detail about the achievements, take inspiration from them and think big and work for the bright future of the nation. It is the duty of the teachers as well as the parents to understand the unique abilities of each child and help the child to develop those abilities. To help the child, teachers need to have sensitivity towards the child,” she said.
Speaking at the event, the president also underlined the significance of the National Education Policy 2020, saying that the new education policy has stressed upon a stronger and vibrant education system. The honourable President also hailed the active participation of women in teaching roles and called for encouraging every girl student and teacher to contribute towards women empowerment.
Besides rewarding the selected teachers with the National Teachers’ Award 2023, President Murmu also interacted with teachers from various states of the country who visited the Amrit Udyan today on a special invitation. Prime Minister Modi also interacted with the 75 teachers selected for the National Teachers’ Award 2023 at his official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi on September 04, 2023.
