New Delhi: The Alliance Française de Delhi, in partnership with One Teacher One Scientist, organised its three-day event, Re-Imagining School Education (RISE) - 2023, from November 17 to 19. The event, aimed at students, teachers, and parents, focused on integrating the concept of 'Global Citizenship in Indian Schools', keeping in mind the 21st-century global landscape aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

In a statement earlier, the RISE 2023 organisers said: “RISE aims to provide a common platform for meaningful dialogues, debates and sharing of ideas and experiences through a diverse and engaging programme over three days.”

The inauguration on November 17 was marked by an address from Cynthia McCaffrey, the UNICEF representative to India. Her speech emphasised the need for nurturing curiosity in classrooms and allowing children to develop at their own pace. The day unfolded with various workshops and panel discussions, delving into the significance of emotions in learning, the role of heritage and culture, and the need for community education in today's world.

The scope of inculcating sustainable development goals (SDGs) in school curriculum was emphasised to consolidate the essence of global citizenship. A highlight of the day was Dadi Pudumjee's Puppet Show, which creatively addressed biodiversity and gender equality.

The following days saw a blend of educational walks and interactive sessions. Dr Navina Jafa led a historical walk through the Lodhi Gardens, enlightening participants on the cultural and architectural significance of the tombs there.

The nature walk focused on the diversity of the Lodhi Gardens' herbal garden, illustrating nature's intricate designs. Workshops and panel discussions continued to explore diverse topics like financial literacy, the role of art in reflecting culture, and the application of neuroscience in education. Engaging activities such as poster-making were also organised to maintain student interest and involvement.

Also present through the festival were eminent personalities, speakers and educationists, such as Junhi Han (UNESCO), Dr Patrick Mitchell (Newcastle University, UK), Dr Nandini Chatterjee Singh (UNESCO MGIEP), Dr Shyama Chona (Founder of Tamana), Dr Gowri Ishwaran (Shiv Nadar Foundation), and former Indian Ambassador to Bahrain & France Dr Mohan Kumar (OP Jindal University), among others.

The event culminated on November 19 with a vote of thanks, and a violin recital by Ustad Johar Ali Khan. Over these three days, RISE touched upon critical issues that will shape the future of the next generation.
