The National Students Union of India (NSUI)staged a protest against the Delhui University Administration on Thursday, May 11. The Congress' student wing demanded the notice sent to Rahul gandhi over his recent visit to the campus to be withdrawn. The protest was held outside the DU PG Men's hostel where an effigy of the hostel provost KP Singh was also burnt. Earlier, in the wake of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the Delhi University Campus hostel, the University administration said that they will issue a notice to Rahul Gandhi against making any unauthorized visit to the campus in the future. Delhi University Registrar Vikash Gupta was reported saying by news agency PTI that the notice shall be sent either by Tuesday or Wednesday.
Following the development, the provost of Delhi University’s PG mens hostel sent a notice to Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, May 10, over his sudden visit to the varsity hostel. In its notice, the hostel administration underlined that ‘such surprise visit from the leader of a national party with Z-plus security is beyond dignity,’ as reported by news agency PTI. The hostel administration further mentioned that such sudden visits amount to trespass and irresponsible behaviour, and asked the Congress leader to resist and refrain from indulging in a similar activity in the future.
The provost further added that Rahul Gandhi’s such unexpected and unplanned visit to the university hostel with three vehicles violated the hostel guidelines as prescribed. The provost underlined that the rule 15.13 of the Handbook of Information and Rules of the Hostel states that: “No resident shall indulge in any activity in the Hostel premises other than academic and residents council activities," as quoted by PTI.
The notice further said that "The Hostel is governed by the University of Delhi Act, 1922 and its Statutes, Ordinances, Regulations and its own 'Rules of Residence', 'Rules regarding Dining Hal' and 'Guests' for the smooth functioning and welfare of its resident students' and for maintaining proper discipline."
"Needless to mention the Administration of the Hostel reserves the right to stop any activity which according to the administration goes against the prescribed rules. As an important part of the maintenance of proper discipline in the hostel, it is clearly stipulated in Rule 15.13 of the Handbook of Information and Rules of the Hostel," the notice read.

Notably, earlier last week, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited the PG Mens’ hostel of the Delhi University to interact with students there. Taking serious note of the incident, the university administration stated the visit as ‘unauthorised,’ raising serious security concerns inside the campus and hostel premises.
Following the developments, the Congress’ student wing NSUI, alleged that the varsity administration was under pressure to take action against Gandhi. However, the registrar later refuted the allegations saying that the university is under no pressure, and such acts are a matter of discipline.
