QS World University Rankings 2023: IISc Top Research University Globally, 41 Indian Varsities Get Featured

QS World Ranking 2023 List: The Indian Institute of Science (155th globally) Bengaluru has climbed 31 places to secure the first position among the Indian institutes, followed by IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi

New Delhi: The number of Indian universities listed in the QS World University Rankings 2023 has gone up to 41 from the previous 35 institutes since last year with seven of them joining the list for the first time. The Indian Institute of Science (155th globally) Bengaluru has climbed 31 places to secure the first position among the Indian institutes, followed by IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi. The top three institutes are listed among the global top 200. IISc has ranked 155th globally and listed as the global leader in the ‘Citations per Faculty’ (CpF) indicator, which QS uses to evaluate the impact of the research produced by universities.

While two other private institutions maintained the same position— Manipal Academy of Higher Education and Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) — while O. P. Jindal Global University (JGU) rose to the next band of 651-700.

 “According to the CpF indicator, when universities are adjusted for faculty size, IISc Bengaluru is the world’s top research university, achieving a perfect score of 100/100 for this metric, QS said in its world university ranking. QS is a global education ranking body based in the UK.

This year’s QS World University Rankings include almost 1,500 institutions from around the world. The highest rankings include universities from diverse locations across Europe, Asia and North America.

Among the new universities to join the ranks include University of Madras and Chandigarh University. IIT Guwahati (37th for CpF), IIT Roorkee (47th for CpF) and the University of Madras (48th for CpF) are also among the global top 50 research institutions.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) retains the world number position for record 11^th consecutive year followed by The University of Cambridge and Stanford University in the third position.

Indian Institutes of Technology rankings also improved this year. IIT Bombay (172nd) moved up five places from last year while IIT Delhi (174th) jumped 11 positions. Others in the top 300 include IIT Madras (250th), IIT Kanpur (264th), and IIT Kharagpur (270th).
