Puducherry Education Minister A Namassivayam said that the schools will reopen on June 7 as against the scheduled reopening of schools on June 1. The Minister said that the decision was taken due to the increased intense heat in Puducherry. 


On Tuesday, Puducherry Education Minister said, "Schools which were scheduled to open on 1st June will be opened on 7th June due to the increased intense heat in Puducherry." 






Earlier, Tamil Nadu also announced that the schools will reopen on June 7. Tamil Nadu Education Minister Poyyamozhi said that the schools following Tamil Nadu State Board curriculum from Classes 1 to 12 will reopen after summer vacation on June 7, 2023 due to the severe heatwave conditions. 


Previously, Tamil Nadu had decided to reopen schools for Classes 6-12 from June 1 and for Classes 1 to 5  from June 5. 


The Minister, addressing the reporters said that based on the consultative meeting by School Education Department with Chief Educational Officers of all districts Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin directed to reopen schools on June 7, 2023 due to the heatwave conditions.


The Minister also said that schools will functions on Saturdays to compensate the leaves, he said as per The Hindu.


On Tuesday, India Meteorological Department said, dry weather is likely to prevail over Puducherry and Karaikal regions. IMD said, "Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms & lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area."


The IMD also predicted the rainfall till June 3. The IMD issued thunderstorms and lightning warning to parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal till June 3.
