Amid the ongoing controversy over the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024, a group of NEET aspirants and their parents met senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at his residence on Thursday. The students met Rahul Gandhi, seeking his support in demanding re-examination of the medical examination. The Congress leader met around 15-20 NEET-UG aspirants, just minutes after addressing a press conference over the controversy.

After his meeting with the students, Gandhi said: "I want to talk to the 24 lakh students who suffered losses. I want to tell them that you are not alone. From the streets to the Parliament, we are with you."

The meeting was orchestrated by Congress' student wing National Students' Union of India (NSUI) president Varun Choudhary, who also accompanied the aspirants.

A student, who met Rahul Gandhi said that they had a satisfying meeting. "He understood the pain of our children, parent of a student said after the interaction with the Congress MP. We are demanding re-examination of the NEET-UG paper. Rahul Sir heard our request and assured that he will make all possible efforts to get the re-examination conducted in our interest," PTI Quoted the student as saying.

After the reports of the alleged irregularities surfaced, the NEET-UG aspirants began demanding a re-examination of the test. The reports of irregularities and paper leak came up at several test centres in Bihar and Gujarat.

Besides the re-examination of NEET-UG, the students have also demanded that the fresh examination must be conducted by another agency, rather than the National Testing Agency (NTA). This demand arose after another examination UGC-NET was cancelled recently, raising questions over the agency's ability to conduct such examinations.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Education cancelled UGC-NET after receiving inputs that the integrity of the examination may have been compromised.

During the press meet, Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Centre over the NEET-UG irregularities, saying that the major reason behind paper leaks was that the educational institutions were "captured by the BJP and its parent organisation RSS" adding that the "paper leaks will not stop unless that is reversed," PTI reported.
