The Union health ministry in consultation with the National Medical Commission (NMC), has announced a reduction in the NEET-Super Speciality admission requirement. Candidates who score a minimum of 20 percentile on the NEET-Super Speciality exam will now be eligible to participate in a special round of admissions, officials said on Tuesday.

Candidates who have scored 20 percentile and above in the NEET-Super Speciality (SS) will be eligible to participate in the "special mop-up round", they said.

"The competent authorities of the MoHFW (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) in consultation with the NMC have decided to conduct an additional mop-up round... it may be conducted for remaining vacant seats after completion of two rounds of the NEET-SS 2022-23 counselling," a letter sent by the Medical Counselling Committee to the National Board of Examinations (NBE) stated.

The eligible candidates for the additional round will be candidates scoring 20th percentile and above -- in all subjects -- in the NEET-SS 2022 examination conducted by the NBE, it said.

"Therefore, it is requested to you to kindly share the data of eligible candidates...," the letter stated.

MBBS Internship Completion Cut-Off Date Further Extended

The National Board of Examination (NBE) has further extended the deadline for completing the medical internship, which is a requirement for the NEET PG exam. The new cut-off date is August 11, 2023, which makes an additional 13,000 MBBS students from five states eligible to participate in the NEET PG 2023 examination. The NBE had previously extended the cut-off date from March 30 to June 30 in January.

NBE will also reopen the application window for NEET PG on February 9 so that now eligible candidates can submit their application forms.

“Considering the future of more than 13,000 MBBS students across 5 States/UTs who were not eligible for #NEET PG 2023 exam due to delayed internship, MoHFW has decided to extend the last date of completion of an internship for eligibility to 11th Aug 2023,” said the union health ministry in a tweet.
