The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has raised concerns regarding the ongoing delay in the NEET PG 2024 counselling process, which has caused significant uncertainty and distress among aspiring students. In a letter addressed to Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda, the IMA highlighted the growing distress surrounding the postponement of the counselling process, which is currently held up due to an ongoing case in the Supreme Court of India.
The IMA explained that the delay is not only affecting the students who have worked tirelessly to qualify for postgraduate medical seats but is also disrupting the functioning of healthcare institutions. The delay has the potential to impact the availability of medical professionals in hospitals, thereby further affecting healthcare delivery in the country.
In the letter, the IMA said, "While we fully respect the judicial process and need for legal clarity, the IMA believes that it is imperative for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to intervene and explore possible solutions to ensure that the students’ futures are not adversely affected."

The IMA also expressed concerns over the potential impact on the academic calendar for postgraduate students and urged the Ministry to take swift action. The letter further appeals for an expedited resolution from the Supreme Court.
"We are confident that under your able leadership, the Ministry will take prompt action to address this issue. The IMA stands ready to offer its support and assistance in any manner required to help resolve this situation," the letter added.
The IMA's appeal emphasises the broader implications of the delay, including the risk to the availability of medical professionals and the disruption to the education of thousands of medical aspirants across India. The IMA’s letter urges the Health Ministry and the Supreme Court to prioritise this issue and work toward a swift resolution.
