The honourable President of India Droupadi Murmu will distribute the National Teachers' Award 2023 to 75 selected teachers at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The award will be distributed among the selected teachers on the birth anniversary of former President of India Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan today, September 5, also celebrated as the National Teachers’ Day. Besides a certificate of merit, the selected teachers will also be awarded with a silver medal and a cash prize of Rs 50,000. 


Notably, the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education organises a national-level function on Teachers Day to felicitate the best teachers across the country. The shortlisting of teachers for the award consists of a rigorous and transparent selection process. Expanding its horizons from this year onwards, the National Teachers’ Award expands itself to also include and recognize teachers of the Department of Higher Education and Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.

The 75 total teachers selected for the award this year include 50 School Teachers, 13 teachers from Higher education and 12 teachers from Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, as per a press release from the Ministry of Education. Notably, the Teachers’ Award is aimed at recognizing the valuable and rigorous commitment of teachers and felicitating those who have been enriching and uplifting the lives of students through their relentless efforts. 


Earlier yesterday, September 4, 2023, the selected teachers also had an interaction with the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi. Through exchanges in the long interaction, PM Modi hailed the efforts and contributions of the teachers and also encouraged them. 


“Met our nation's exemplary educators who have been honoured with the National Teachers' Awards. Their dedication to shaping young minds and their unwavering commitment to excellence in education is very inspiring. In their classrooms, they are scripting a brighter future for India's youth,” PM Modi said through his official handle on X (formerly Twitter), after the meeting, sharing some images from the interaction.
