• As per sources, the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category shall include those with annual income below 8 lakh • People having agricultural land below 5 acres, residential house below 1000 square feet, residential plot below 109 yards in notified municipality, residential plot below 209 yards in non notified municipality area. • Financially poor people who do not belong to any social category (SC/ST/OBC), shall be the beneficiary of the move. • This reservation will be extended to those belonging to the Brahmin, Thakur, Kayastha, Baniya, Jaat, Gujjar and others communities. The same will be come into being after making an amendment in the constitution, by moving a constitutional amendment bill in the parliament; which is likely to be tabled in the parliament on Tuesday. The provision of reservation falls under Article 15,16 of the constitution. The country has 12-14% upper castes population. The Supreme Court has capped the quota for caste-based reservation for government jobs at 50%. This is over and above the 50 percent mandated by constitution and hence constitution amendment Bill.
