New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday announced that Union Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to exempt some lockdown restrictions and allow state boards to conduct board exams for Class 10 and 12 amid corona induced lockdown that was enforced on March 24 and will continue till May 31.


Taking to his personal twitter handle, Amit Shah posted an official notice issued by Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla to Chief Secretaries of all states informing about the government’s decision to allow boards to conduct the pending board exams for students of Class 10 and Class 12.

"Taking into consideration the academic interest of large number of students, it has been decided to grant exemption from the lockdown measures to conduct Board examination for classes 10th & 12th," Amit Shah tweeted.


The move has been taken up on request from state governments and CBSE; and has been monitored by the Home Ministry. However, the exemption to conduct board exams will be subject to few conditions such as following the norms of social distancing, mandatorily wearing face mask etc, for everyone's safety.

Here Are The Guidelines To Be Followed While Conducting Class 10, 12 Board Examination

  •  No exam centres permitted in Containment Zones

  • Mandatory for teachers, staff and students o wear face masks

  • There shall be provision of thermal screening and sanitizers at the exam centres

  • Examination schedule should be staggered

  • Special buses may be provided by States/ UTs for transportation of students to exam centres


Earlier this week, CBSE released datasheet for the pending exams of class 10 and 12 which commences from July 1 till July 15.

For class 10, the exams will be for the subjects- Social science, Science theory, science without practical, Hindi course A and B, English Communicative and English Lang and Lit.

For class 12, the date sheet comprises of subjects that were not conducted all over India and those which remained specifically in Northeast Delhi.
