New Delhi: Karthyayini Amma, a 96-year-old woman from Kerala has topped the Kerala literacy exam by scoring spectacular 98 percent marks and has astonished the world with her achievement. The nonagenarian who hails from Cheppad, Alappuzha, has just not made her state proud but has also set an example for the others with her never-too-late spirit!

The exam was conducted in the month of August this year and Amma obtained a full score in her reading test. She was among 43,330 students who appeared for the exam this year. After the results, it was not just her family who celebrated the result, but her academic progress was closely followed in the state and outside as well.

The examination was the part of ‘Aksharalaksham’ mission of the state government, which is conducted to ensure numerical cent percent literacy in Kerala.

Karthyayini Amma is now looking forward to meeting chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on November 1 and collect her certificate from him. The CM awards the oldest and youngest of students in the Literacy Course and Amma will be felicitated for her remarkable achievement that has made India’s most literate state proud.
