On the inclusion of Veer Savarkar in school syllabus, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has said that: “What is the problem in this, why shouldn't Veer Savarkar be taught?” Speaking further on the issue, he said that Veer Savrkar was an excellent patriot who was punished with two life terms, lived in Kala Pani and sacrificed everything for the country. “Today we go to Cellular Jail and see how Savarkar lived in the cell...his other brothers were also there but it was not known that he was there who sacrificed everything for the country, his biography will be studied," he further said.

Notably, the Madhya Pradesh government recently announced revisions to school syllabus in the state, making way for the inclusion of Veer Savarkar in the syllabus. On Thursday, Madhya Pradesh Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar said that lessons of Hindutva Ideologue Veer Savarkar would now be taught in schools in the state, under the NEP. The announcement from the minister attracted quick flak from the opposition with the Congress terming the move as ‘political.’

"As part of the NEP, the life of Bhagwan Parshuram, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Subhash Chandra Bose and Veer Savarkar and (teachings of) Gita will be included (in the syllabus) as part of India's knowledge tradition so that people get to know about their contribution," Parmar told PTI.

The Madhya Pradesh minister further alleged that the Congress party which has largely ruled the country since independence, has ignored several revolutionaries, and focussed on the glorification of just one family.

Criticising the state government's move, Madhya Pradesh Congress media cell chairperson KK Mishra called the decision as a political move in the wake of incoming polls in the state. He further said that the BLP government in Madhya Pradesh is trying to divert the masses from core problems like inflation, unemployment, and others. Mishra also underlined that the state government should also include 'Savarkar Samagra', in which Savarkar advocated for cow rearing, and not cow worship.
