Kota: A BTech student in his final year allegedly took his own life by hanging from a ceiling fan in his paying guest accommodation in Kota, Rajasthan, police said on Friday. Noor Mohammed, aged 27, allegedly committed suicide sometime on Wednesday and his body was discovered in his room in the Vigyan Nagar area on Thursday night, as reported by news agency PTI. Authorities mentioned that no suicide note was found at the scene. This incident marks the third suicide reported in Kota within the span of two weeks. Hailing from Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, Mohammed was studying for his BTech degree at SRM University, Chennai, and resided in Kota as a paying guest.

DSP Dharmveer Singh from Vigyan Nagar said that Mohammed had attended coaching institutes in Kota from 2016 to 2019 to prepare for entrance exams. After securing admission to SRM University, he continued his studies through online classes at his Kota PG.

He reportedly took his life by hanging himself with a bedsheet from a ceiling fan on Wednesday. A mess worker noticed an untouched tiffin box outside Mohammed's room on Thursday evening, prompting the PG owner to alert the authorities around 8 pm.

The body has been transferred to the mortuary for post-mortem examination, Singh confirmed, noting that the family has been notified and is en route to Kota.

This incident marks the third suicide in Kota this year. On January 29, Niharika Singh, 18, preparing for JEE, took her life at home, leaving a note expressing apologies to her parents. On January 23, Mohammed Zaid, 19, was found deceased in his hostel room in Kota. Zaid, from Moradabad, had arrived in Kota to prepare for the NEET medical entrance exam.

Kota saw 26 student suicides last year, a city where aspirants flock from across India to prepare for competitive exams like JEE for admission to elite engineering colleges.
