Karnataka Schools Reopen: Schools in Karnataka from class 9th to 12th have been reopened from August 23. However, schools have been allowed to open only in a select few districts. In Uttar Pradesh too schools from class 6th to 8th were scheduled to reopen from today, but the state has declared 3-day mourning due to the death of former UP Chief Minister, Kalyan Singh. Tamil Nadu has also announced to reopen the school from September 1.
The State Government of Karnataka has issued a Statement of Procedure (SOP) and all educational institutions must follow the norms mentioned in the SOP. According to the SOP issued, schools will be allowed to reopen only in districts where the Covid-19 test positivity rate is less than 2 percent. It is mandatory for all students, staff, and parents visiting the school campus to follow the guidelines mentioned in the SOP.
Online classes will also operate in Karnataka
In Karnataka, schools will also conduct online classes for students who do not want to attend on-campus classes. Significantly, it is mandatory for all staff members (teaching and non-teaching) to already have their vaccination before entering the school premises. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has also assured parents that the government is taking precautions before reopening schools and is also ensuring that all Covid-19 protocols are followed.
Reopening of Schools in UP No updates on reopening schools for classes 6th to 8th
In Uttar Pradesh, there is no update as to when will schools reopen for students of classes 6th to 8th. However, schools from 9th to 12th were opened in the state from August 16. Adhering to all Covid-19 protocols, classes are being conducted in two shifts in schools. The first shift will be from 8 am to 12 noon and the second shift will be from 12.30 pm to 4.30 pm. The classes will only be allowed at 50 per cent capacity.
Tamil Nadu Schools for 9th to 12th to open from 1st September
Tamil Nadu government has relaxed the Covid-19 restrictions furthermore from today. However, the state will remain under lockdown till September 6. According to a statement issued by the Office of the Public Directive, classes from 9th to 12th will be started in all schools (government, government-aided and private) from September 1, 2021. During this period, only 50 per cent of the students will be allowed in the class.
